SGQ Project Tour: Tiffany Horn of Village Bound Quilts' Altamont Pillow
I asked a handful of my favorite quilters, makers and sewists to choose a project from Simple Geometric Quilting and make their own unique version. I love seeing the creative ways people interpret these patterns, choose colors and make bold design choices that reflect their style and aesthetic. I hope these reimaginations will inspire you to create outside of the box with your very own Simple Geometric Quilting projects!
Tiffany Horn is a quilter and designer based in Upstate New York who shares her work on her blog and website Village Bound Quilts and her Instagram @villageboundquilts. I’ve followed along with her Instagram for years - she’s a modern quilter through and through, definitely one of my favorite quilter’s quilter! Her bright and colorful quilts are fresh and approachable and her original quilt patterns speak to my love for simple, graphic designs, especially her Sonoran Chain Quilt!
Aside from sharing her own patterns with the quilting world, Tiffany also puts her own unique spin on fellow quilter’s patterns as a prolific pattern tester. I always love seeing what she’s working on and how she makes a pattern her own, so I definitely wanted to see her take on a project from Simple Geometric Quilting!
Tiffany chose the Altamont Pillow, the first curves project in the book and one of my personal faves (mine currently lives on my bed). She didn’t shy away from those seemingly tricky curves - the hardest part was actually picking that perfectly chic color palette! She chose Kona Cotton in Doeskin, Ivory, White, Snow & Bone and hand quilted it with white DMC Perle cotton for some extra yummy texture. I love how even with a super neutral palette, this pillow still packs a punch and makes a great statement piece for Tiffany’s guest bedroom.
Tiffany shared more about her process and her take on the Altamont Pillow in her latest blog post (along with some really great tips) - check it out!
The original Altamont Pillow from Simple Geometric Quilting was meant to be the perfect introduction to curves. With the large-scale quarter circles, this pattern gently eases you into the technique if you’re a newbie. The design is inspired by the rolling golden hills of the Altamont Pass that we’d drive through on our way out of town for a long weekend away from the Bay Area.
