Behind the Scenes: Simple Geometric Quilting
I feel like I’ve been shouting it from the rooftops for the last year, but I WROTE A BOOK!! It’s called Simple Geometric Quilting and includes detailed instructions for 20 brand new quilt projects, along with technique tutorials, quilting 101 and design tips. It’s basically 160 pages of everything I know about quilting, shared with you!
With Simple Geometric Quilting, I want to teach you how to make each project and create a holistic resource for all things quilting that you can reach for again and again, whether you’re just learning how to quilt or have decades of experience making quilts. With in-depth tutorials and twenty projects ranging from a small wall hanging to a large queen-size quilt, there’s something for everyone who wants to learn how to make non-traditional quilts using traditional techniques. Each project is based on a geometric shape and inspired by a place I’ve visited during my travels, with photos and stories to give you a sense of “why” behind the quilt and some insight into my design process. I also sprinkled Design Notes throughout the book to encourage you to use the skills and techniques you learn in this book to create your own unique quilt designs. Because the main reason I wrote Simple Geometric Quilting was to inspire you and give you the confidence to make something that’s truly you.
The process of writing this book was a whirlwind. Page Street Publishing reached out to me in March 2018, I submitted the sample chapter and designs in June, signed the contract in July, spent 4 months making, photographing, and writing instructions for all 20 quilts, submitted the manuscript in November, selected photos (all taken by my talented husband John) in December, and finished all the edits in February 2019. Looking back, writing a book, let alone designing and making 20 quilts, while traveling full time and running a business in less than a year seems crazy. But I learned so much about writing and explaining things clearly as well as who I am and what I want to share as a quilter. It was truly an invaluable experience that I’m so grateful for.
